BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Last week, BGSU Hockey assistant coach Ty Eigner received a phone call from an old college friend. The point of the call was not to catch up over time spent apart but instead to reunite over an invitation to coach alongside him for a week in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

For the last four days, Eigner has been serving as an honorary coach at Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL) training camp per an invitation from Penguins head coach, Dan Bylsma. Eigner arrived in “The Steel City” Friday, Sept. 17, and will help in team drills, video and team activities through the Penguins’ exhibition game with the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday, Sept. 22.

“I first of all really want to thank Coach [Chris] Bergeron for this opportunity to join Dan [Bylsma] and the Penguins organization for the week,” said Eigner. “This is going to be something that will help me as a coach and hopefully help the Falcons, as well.”

Eigner has been a full participant in all coaching aspects through Penguins camp and has been treated as a full-time staff member since his arrival.

He reunited with two former teammates stemming from his playing days as a Falcon. Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma and assistant coach Todd Reirden played alongside Eigner from 1990-92 when all three were a part of two NCAA Tournament teams in 1991 and 1992.
